Ultra Violet Kanjivaram, Temple Border

Start with the color: ultra violet, on a Kanjivaram — the silk woven in and around Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu. The body carries buttas, the small motifs repeated across the body and gopuram outlines. The zari is gold-tone — zari being the metallic thread this weaving tradition is built on. It has a temple-point border. It carries a Silk Mark tag, the Indian certification for genuine silk. This is a saree to attend a wedding in, not to be married in. A pastel cream yellow blouse piece is included. Color on a screen is never exact; we photograph on a neutral ground in daylight and do not retouch it.

Care	Dry clean the first wash. After that, if dry cleaning is not possible, hand wash gently in cold water without detergent and let it air dry in shade — never machine wash, tumble dry or wring it. Wash the body separately from the zari border and pallu, which may be dyed differently. Store it wrapped in cotton cloth rather than plastic, somewhere cool and dry, and unfold it every few months to let it air. Iron through a thin cotton cloth on medium heat, never directly on the silk or the zari. (Supplier's care guidance.)
