Yellow Kanjivaram with Temple Border

Yellow silk, woven as a Kanjivaram — the silk woven in and around Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu. The body carries kattam, the woven check grid and peacock motifs. The zari is gold-tone — zari being the metallic thread this weaving tradition is built on. It has a temple-point border. Korvai construction builds border and field apart and marries them by hand, leaving a slight raised line you can find with a finger. The tissue finish gives it a fine sheen. Needle embroidery is worked over the woven silk by hand, after the loom. It carries a Silk Mark tag, the Indian certification for genuine silk. A piece for a reception rather than a long daytime event. A red blouse piece is included.

Care	Dry clean the first wash. After that, if dry cleaning is not possible, hand wash gently in cold water without detergent and let it air dry in shade — never machine wash, tumble dry or wring it. Wash the body separately from the zari border and pallu, which may be dyed differently. Store it wrapped in cotton cloth rather than plastic, somewhere cool and dry, and unfold it every few months to let it air. Iron through a thin cotton cloth on medium heat, never directly on the silk or the zari. (Supplier's care guidance.)
